Are these insects

ASIW 2026

Welcome to supporting materials for Art and Science in the Woods, 2026, version. This information is provided as a reference for those who participated in my classes at the Sun Foundation and would like to learn a bit more about insects. The featured image (also shown below) is a start. Think of it as your puzzler for the day. Are these insects? Yes. But, what are they? That is where your curiosity and resourcefulness come into play.

Are these insects

Here are some of the materials I used during our time together at the Sun Foundation.

Of course, one must include a few insect jokes (afternoon sessions) at the start of each class. And one may need to refer to selected insect facts (morning sessions) throughout the class. I also have a few aquatic insect facts.

Morning classes begin with a quick introduction to the world of insects.

Afternoon classes begin with a more in depth introduction to insects.

Friday, we looked at unusual insects found in Illinois.

You may also want to identify insects on your own after class. This page should help you get started.

Some of the quizzes I use during the week (if you want to try on your own).
